Tooth Replacement
San Clemente Dental Associates offers mouthguards for patients with TMJ disorders, protruding jaws or those who wear braces or other dental appliances, such as dental bridges, retainers or implant-supported dentures. Mouthguards provide the right protection and have been proven to reduce the risk of concussion and other sport-related dental injuries. Mouthguards usually cover the upper teeth and are designed to protect against broken teeth, cut lips and other damage to teeth and mouth.
Different Types of Mouthguards
No matter which type of mouth guard you choose, it should be resilient, tear-resistant and comfortable. It should also fit properly and not restrict your speech or breathing. The three types of mouth guards are:
Custom-Made Athletic Mouthguards—Your dentists at Portside Dentistry provides active or athletic patients custom-fabricated or individually designed athletic mouth guards for comfortable fit and best protection during sports activities. Your dentist will make an impression of your teeth and models the mouth guard based on the impression. Customized athletic mouthguards offer better fit than stock mouth protectors you find in most sporting goods store, which often don’t fit very well. Read More »
Night Guards— Night mouthguard is the ideal solution for patients who suffer from clenching or teeth grinding problems while sleeping. Clenching or grinding of the teeth often lead to excessive wear of the teeth or jaw disorders, such as TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorders. Read More »
Using Mouthguards
Mouth guards should replaced regularly because they can wear down over time, which makes them less effective, especially for adolescent patients because their mouths continue to grow and teeth continue to develop as they age. Most of our active patients who are into different types of sports have new mouthguards replaced when they go for their routine six-month dental check-up at Portside Dentistry in Newport Beach.
